    Description

Have a look at the photos above. This is a really cool RARE lot of old hand-signed tennis balls from the late 1920s to the mid 1930s. They were found in the box shown. The box is in not-so-good shape but I am including it as this is how they were found. Hopefully the box will survive in packing and shipping. Since I am limited to 12 photos I grouped the balls signatures in twos.
The first ball Stoefen and George Lott. Vincent Richards, Madison Square Garden, NY, January 10 1934. One of the other on the ball could be Ellsworth Vines who played on that day. The fuzz on the balls is somewhat worn and areas look like they have loss from insect damage or age.
One ball is dated Feb 21, 1934 and is signed by Vincent Richard along with another name which I cant make out. This ball has printed on it 1934 Spaulding Approved US L.T.A. LATEXEAM.
Another ball, dated in ink by hand June 6, 1933, is signed by Vincent Richard, Bruce Barnes, William Tilden II and Frank Hunter.
Included is a rare Ellsworth Vines logo Championship Approved Lawn Tennis ball. This ball is in quite nice condition and has held its round shape (all of the balls are hardened from age, some are deflated). Another unsigned ball is a Wilson Championship Approved US Lawn Tennis Association ball.
Included also is a ball stamped Wright & Ditson Championship 1927, Approved By U.S.L.T.A. This ball is signed by Gottfried Cramm. There are two other names on the ball but they are written in ink, not in script like a signature. One is J (Jiro) Yamagishi (Since Mr Yamagishi was Japanese, perhaps he printed his name rather than sign?). The other name printed rather than I script, is Parker. Not sure who they could be.
There are 4 other balls, that were part of this collection, that are not signed (one looks like it could have been but it is not legible).
