Prince broke through the color barrier on MTV and became the first black artist to get heavy rotation with his music videos of 1999 and Little Red Corvette.   It wasn't long after that Purple Rain set MTV up for a huge increase in viewership and PRINCE for "LEGEND STATUS"  at a level close to Michael Jackson would soon have with THRILLER.
1999 is ICONIC and this award was one of many my father made -  ordered up by Warner Brothers when it passed the 3-million sales mark IRONICALLY in 1999 and also IRONICALLY at the same time PINK FLOYD's "THE WALL"  was certified by RIAA for 20-million sales.   (I just listed that award simultaneously with this one on ebay).
