    Description

Here we have a circa 1900 antique American cigar box. The top of the box says "MANZANILLA 5(cent sign) CIGARS -- MANUFACTURED BY M. H. BARNETT - SPRINGFIELD, MASS". This message is repeated on three of the four sides on the inside of the box, although the sides are paper labels, not embossed on the wood. There is a loose paper sticker inside that reads "FACTORY NO 155 - 3RD DIST. STATE OF MASS. - NOTICE - The manufacturer of the cigars herein contained has complied with all the requirements of law. Every person is cautioned not to use either this box for cigars again, or the stamp thereon again, nor to remove the contents of this box without destroying said stamp under the penalties provided by law in such cases." -- The bottom of the box is stamped "Factory No. 155 - 3rd Dist. Mass. - 100". This is a dovetailed solid wood box measuring about eleven by six by three inches in diameter. The top and inside of the top is stenciled, and the  box appears to have been lightly lacquered or some other similar finish. I find that one of these boxes were sold a couple years ago on eBay, but I wasn't able to determine the selling price, so I am just putting this box at a reasonable starting bid price with no reserve, or feel free to make a BEST OFFER on it....GARY FROM HAUNTED MANSION RELIX
