GARCIA Y VEGA 2 DUMMY DEALER WINDOW DISPLAY CIGAR BOXES SUPER RARE 40s-50s.Window display contents were popular during the first half of the 20th century, but cigars don’t last long when displayed in windows as the sun both dries and bleaches them. As a result, salesmen provided retailers with dummy display boxes filled with fake cigars made of wood, cardboard or other materials. The degree of realism varied greatly. These boxes are always clearly marked to avoid paying taxes on the box. Here are two Garcia Y Vega boxes, one is Saratoga's in a wood/cardboard box and the other are Senators in a cardboard box. The bottom says to sell for more than 8 cents and no more than 15 cents. There are 13 fake cardboard cigars all wrapped in each box, very realistic. The faux cigars and boxes are in excellent condition, the Senators has a couple edge creases probably due to other boxes sitting on top. Largest box is 8 3/8" X 5 1/8". These boxes rarely surface since they were simply thrown away with no reason to save them. They were not sold or offered to the general public making them quite rare. These are also called salesman samples. I have a few more of these different brands that I will be listing. Please check out my other vintage items. Please ask any question that you may have. Thank you, Dave
