    Description

CREMO DUMMY DEALER WINDOW DISPLAY CIGAR BOX SUPER RARE 30s. SUPER RARE.
Window display contents were popular during the first half of the 20th century, but cigars don’t last long when displayed in windows as the sun both dries and bleaches them.  As a result, salesmen provided retailers with dummy display boxes filled with fake cigars made of wood, cardboard or other materials. The degree of realism varied greatly. These boxes are always clearly marked to avoid paying taxes on the box. Here is a fine Cremo wooden box. There are 13 fake cardboard cigars all wrapped in the box, very realistic. These were 3 for 10 cents. The display was made by Adartcraft around 1932. The faux cigars and box is in excellent condition. Some of the cello is chipped on a couple at the top. Some light wear and tear to litho in spots. There are metal supports on each side holding the fake cigars in place. A few of the faux cigars on the end lifted out of the channel. The box is 9 1/8" X 5 5/8". These boxes rarely surface since they were simply thrown away with no reason to save them. They were not sold or offered to the general public making them quite rare. These are also called salesman samples. I have a few more of these different brands that I will be listing. Please check out my other vintage items. Please ask any question that you may have. Thank you, Dave
